das video das ich am 19. november ins netz gestellt hab, hat eine interessante reise unternommen.
bei mir vom server ist es um die 2100 mal aufgerufen. davon wurden kopien gemacht. und die reise ist losgegangen.
zuerst war es auf tuaw.com zu sehen. ich kann nicht sagen wie viele seher es dort angeschaut haben. auch war es teil des tuaw podcasts.
dann vergeht die zeit. und heute tipp ich auf youtube ‘nano linux’ ein und mein video ist der erste hit. und hatte bereits 21.592 views. :)

ich finds faszinierend wie solche dinge ihren lauf nehmen.

mit ein bisschen suche im internet und ein bisschen basteln in gimp hab ich mir mein iPhoto.app icon nach meinen wünschen angepasst.
das ganze schaut dann so aus:

hat einer meiner mac os x kollegen da draussen sich auch schon mit den icons gespielt?

es geht doch…

seit heute ist es offiziell. windows kann auf einem intel mac gebootet werden.

narf2006 hat es geschafft. wie schon berichtet, gab es einen wettbewerb. wer immer es auch schafft windows auf einem intel mac, im dualboot mode, zum laufen zu bringen bekommt den ganzen pot. das waren dann schlussendlich 13.854 Dollar. stattlich.

asterisk telefonie für stunden verstummt…

aus erster quelle hab ich gerade erfahren dass heute nacht um punkt 00:00, ortszeit, weltweit viele asterisk telefonie server verstummten.
genauer alle von version 1.2.1.

man konnte zwar telefonate tätigen und so, aber gehoert hat man nix.

das problem ist mittlerweile behoben…

das war der fehler:

linux am ipod nano…

es ist mir mit hilfe von ipod linux und einem guten tutorial gelungen auf meinen nano ein linux zu spielen. der vorteil?
naja, jetzt kann ich mir auch videos anschauen. leider nur unkomprimierte varianten. d.h. eine halbe stunde kommt auf etwa 1,1 gigabyte.
spiele laufen auch recht gut.
musik abzuspielen geht leider nicht so fein wie unter der original firmware.
auch funktioniert die shell nicht wie sie soll.
alles in allem nett videos schaun zu können aber nur eine kleine spielerei :)

[franklyn.at mirror 2]* , and not everybody does speak german, i decided to translate a bit.

i was curious about how linux on ipod would be. and ipodlinux is just supporting 1-3G ipods. so i first gave up the thought of installing linux on my nano which is apparently one of the 5thG.
i read that some guys did manage to do it anyhow. and then i just tried. thanks to this little how to. well that worked whit some twisting.
the next step was video. i encoded a video and then put it on my nano.
it worked great. although this half an hour shorty did take 1.1 gigabytes of memory since the nano doesn’t support compressed video (yet).
it seems that the big encoded video does have little problems with synchronous sound and video in the last part. you can see that in the video, when i wind the video forward.
sound does work. for video as well as for mp3 files (other formats not yet tested).

what does work:
-games. :)
-stuff
-music playback (filebrowser)
-filebrowser
-video playback (uncompressed only)
-doom

what does not work with the nano:
-doom does work, never the less there seems to be a little problem with the keylinking.
-the ‘music’ section does show the categories, but no content and whenever i try to enter the linux idles.
-the clock seems to reset everytime i reboot.

front row…

mir ist es gestern mit wenig aufwand gelungen apples entertainment software ‘front row’ auf meinem 15” powerbook g4 zum laufen zu bringen. leider funktioniert das ding nicht wirklich einwandfrei was die kommunikation mit itunes, dvd player und dem movie trailer server betrifft.
es scheint als sei front row ein reines interface um itunes, quicktime, dvd player und iphoto zu steuern. mehr tut es nicht.
natürlich ist es fein am anderen ende des raumes zu stehen und mit einer fernbedienung und einem interface dass man lesen kann videos abzuspielen, aber brauchen tut man’s nicht.
als fernbedienung verwende ich mein sony ericsson T630, mit romeo.

was funktioniert:
– musik abspielen (sollte es da probleme geben: sicherstellen das iTunes.app im Applications folder liegt. itunes und front row beenden und nacheinander neu starten)
– filme anschaun. (da nimmt front row alle filme die sich im movies folder befinden. abgespielt wird mit quicktime. also ist es sinnvoll sich einen divx plugin für quicktime zuzulegen.)
– fotos anschaun (im hintergrund wird iphoto geladen)

was noch nicht geht:
– movie trailer anschaun (da kommt die message: movie trailer server is not responding. interessant ist dass die netzwerkauslastung dennoch in die höhe schnellt und oben bleibt bis man front row beendet.[so wars beim letzten versuch den ich unternommen hab'])
– dvd anschaun (da haut was bei der kommunikation zwischen dvd player und front row nicht hin)
– music videos (da ich noch keine musik videos im itunes music store gekauft hab und ich nicht weiss wie ich vorhandene in die itunes library so übernehme dass sie als musik video verwaltet werden geht das auch nicht.)

und es funzt doch…

habs heute geschafft, die eine innerei des ipod, das microdrive, zu formatieren. dabei hab ich festgestellt dass card reader nicht gleich card reader ist!
mein zuerst verwendeter hama ‘USB 2.0 card reader 9in1′ (blaues teil) haut einfach nicht hin. ebensowenig ein konkurrenzprodukt, digitus 16 in 1, ein dritter hat dann funktioniert. und den werd ich mir besorgen. komisch is nur dass der dritte der billigste von allen war…

die kamera hat auch noch probleme mit der erkennung. vielleicht liegts aber da an der firmware und dem faktum dass das microdrive 4gb hat. amal schaun…
